How to Best Maintain Your Ceramic Coating

1. Regular Washing and Proper Drying
Just like your car’s engine requires proper and regular maintenance, so does your ceramic coating. While the coating naturally repels dirt and grime, regular cleaning is an important part of keeping contaminants from building up over time and clogging the ceramic coating. The point of getting it was to the ceramic coating was for it to perform at its fullest capacity, right?
When washing, stick to a pH-neutral car shampoo; or a rinseless wash, (more about this in another post) and use the two-bucket method or a single bucket with multiple high quality microfiber towels to avoid scratching the surface. A microfiber mitt works best for gently cleaning the surface, and don’t skimp on the keeping the the car foamed with soap. Especially, if you washing it outside. Once you’re done, dry the car completely with a soft microfiber towel to prevent water spots. Believe me, water spots can be stubborn to deal with even on a ceramic coating.
2. Stay Away from Harsh Chemicals and Abrasives
Ceramic coatings are strong but they are not bulletproof - no matter what social media says. Using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials can break down the coating over time and can even damage the paint. So, avoid acidic and alkaline-based cleaners, strong solvents, and abrasive scrub pads like the plague.
Instead, go for pH neutral ceramic-safe products— soaps and cleaners that are made for coatings. These products will clean without damaging the protective layer you’ve invested in. And as always, use soft wash mitts and microfiber towels to avoid any unnecessary scratches.
3. Use Ceramic Maintenance Products

These products are designed to enhance the coating’s hydrophobic properties and gloss, keeping your car looking freshly detailed for longer.
4. Keep the ceramic properly decontaminated
Even with the best care, coatings can wear down over the years. That’s why it’s important to inspect your vehicle regularly. Look for signs like reduced dull spots, minor scratches, and water clinging to the surface, neither sheeting nor beading on the surface.
If you spot any issues, it may be time for a decontamination wash. We recommend either Candy Coat Revive or CARPRO IronX, and a light clay mitt to assist in the decontamination process. This level of detail performed after 6-12 months should help to keep your coating performing its best.
